Hi, I've just got a 1993 honda cb400f superfour (sometimes it's called a CB-1)

The (supposedly-new) battery has died.
I was riding, for about an hour or so (maybe 20 mins at a time). stopped for a buttie and the bike tried to start, but didn't. got a push start, went for a run to put some charge back, stopped, bike tried even less to start. bump start again, rode the 3-4 miles back keeping the revs up, got home and all i get is a clicking when I try to start it now. the battery held charge fine over the last 2 days in the garage/front room.

seeing as the battery is pretty new, and holds charge overnight, and I can't think of much that would drain that much charge whilst being ridden, do you think I could need a new alternator?

also, the alarm has been disconnected.

Do you own a multimeter? If not, go to Maplins and buy one. It might help you answer your own question!

charge the battery, start the bike & check the voltage across the terminals with the engine running. should be over 12v & rise to around 14v when reved. if its out of those ranges then its not charging properly.
i've heard the regulator/rectifer unit on bikes is often the weak spot.
