Hi All

I have my first track day in my new GT3 in a couple of weeks...(I paid list price from the OPC)....And wanted to know if anyone new of a good way of protecting the paint from stonechips??? The car is black so they are going to show up badly...

I had some Pirelli Corsa's fitted and they look great...

Cheers

There are three options AFAIK

1) Incero supply a clear plastic paint that lasts a few trackdays before coming off - google incero if need be, or there may even have been a banner ad on PH somewhere

2) You can get some 3M stone guard plastic film, which is permanent (there is a brand name but I can't remember it at the moment) but has to be cut perfectly and properly applied without bubbles etc. This is more expensive

3) Make sure you are always the car in front

Hi, SNAP! i just got my new black GT3 last week! Anyway my car is at my local Porsche body shop having Amorfend fitted to the front and sides of the car. I have been told it looks a bit rubbish but should stop all stone chips. It can be taken off with a hair drier when you come to sell, and should make the car look as good as new.

As for the cost, well i have opted for the whole kit which is costing about £600 plus fitting is around £300. I will let you know how it looks after it's done in the morning.

www.incero.com for the paint-on, peel-off stuff. I tried to get some for a track day last month, but ran out of time so can't give a first hand report. They say the £40 container is enough for 2 treatments to the front end of a Porsche - The guy I spoke to at Incero runs a 993 and tests the products on it and (of course) claims it works very effectively. Sound ideal if you just want occasional protection on trackdays, but Armourfend is the answer if you want something more permanent.

Please do let us know how it goes. I've been thinking about this stuff for a while

The best prevention is simply not to get close to any car in front, if yoiu are held up do not tailgate , just drop back and find a clear bit of track

Waste of time on a TT,,,the descrption proudly claims they have been tested to 140mph.
The car behind doesn't need that flying off the front of a TT on a Bruntingthorpe run.

I've got a black 964RS which was reasonably unblemished last August but now showing usual wear and tear of tracking. I think you just have to be philosophical about it, unless you keep the car in the garage all the time, its going to happen. I've also got a 996 daily driver which collects the usual parking dings on its doors, plus the resurface road chippings, just one of the pains to go with the pleasure

Dom

Don't worry, It'll only be used on the overnight 600 mile trip up GB on the motorways from there to here and vice versa.
