Best road for Valentine's Day plus romantic pit stop

Hi guys.

Would love to take the missus out for a drive on Valentine's Day and then stop off in the evening at a really romantic little restaurant or hotel.

Can be anywhere really, but somewhere up North would be best as we're starting off in Stockport, probably in the afternoon and as it's a Thursday, would prefer to avoid any rush hour routes around the 4-6pm time.

I was thinking of somewhere in the Lake district or perhaps North Yorkshire but would welcome any circular route to get us back to the M60 in the evening.

And if anyone can recommend a really great restaurant or country hotel for a bite to eat in the evening, that would be the perfect end to the day.
