We were going to buy either a PS3 or XB0x 360 yesterday, thinking that the games, like the PC titles, would come in English (we are in Italy), but no!
I asked the sales guy if the language could be changed, but he said they are all in Italian only!
Sometimes, this isn’t a prob, but they want Assassins Creed, which has a lot of dialogue.

Is this true, are games for each country language locked?

I guess we could buy the console here and buy the games from Amazon UK etc – but would the games work ok, are they country/region specific?

Chris.
I'm in Trento & considering the same purchase for the Grand Children when they visit next week. AS far as I know all software (games) are multi-lingual. If you hear otherwise, plse let me know.

Hi,

The guy in the games store was absolutely adamant that all the X Box 360 and PS3 games were in Italian language only. We were fully prepared to buy either console there and then, but felt it would be daft buying one, only to discover the games were all in Italian lingo!

Some PC games are the same, I bought Crysis and had COD4 for Xmas, both have only Italian language in the games.

The kid’s Nintendo DS games all seem to be multi lingual though, the main consoles however, seem to be single languages!

I was reading yesterday that Sony have not encoded any games (so far) with region protection, and the region of your console determines the region of the games you play. So if you put a jap game in a UK console it should play the UK version of this game.

I don't know if this sets the default language or if it just dictated which servers you use for online gaming!

Well, we bought a PS3 today (€399). Plus a HDMI cable and Resistance Fall of Man.
We have ordered Drakes Fortune, Guitar Hero 3 and Assassins Creed from Amazon.uk.

Although the manual and all other text was not in English, the PS3 menu gave us the choice for UK language, and the game we bought plays in English. (although graphically, it was disappointing)

It can play my music library and videos, but then again, so can my PC sitting under it. I was disappointed that the PS3 is Region 2 only for DVD’s, as a lot of my collection is from the US. I was going to put our DVD player upstairs, but not so sure now – why the hell do they have region lock them?

I hope the other games we have ordered justify the purchase….

(personally, I wanted an X Box 360 for the better games, but I was outnumbered! lol)
