which bmw?

Ok. Im needing a new car as a second car. Used to have a 3.0L omega, this car converted me to rear wheel drive
I love rear wheel drive, and would like a better car than a vauxhall. I need a reliable economical car that is also a good tow car as i need it to tow my RWD race mini around the country.
Must be a manual and have enough grunt to have some tail out fun.
What model would you guys recomend?
I have an odd budget.. It is either up to £3.5k or £10k with a loan.
I have been looking at an old 525tds 325tds, are these still good cars with he amount of miles they tend to come with? Are there any well known problems with these having so many miles? Or am i better off getting a loan and getting either a 330d or a 530d?

BMW E34 540 touring, or an E39 535i touring with all of the toys. Top cars and great to drive.

For that kind of money, why don't you look at an E36 328? Bulletproof and guarantee'd tail out fun. I can highly recommend as a towcar too.

Don't think any of the diesels have slippy diffs!

I need good mpg around 30-40mpg, i do a lot of miles and need it to be cheap to run.
