I got to ride one of these today. The weather curbed any antics, but this may well be THE ideal sports bike.
Better looking than my 999R, similar power, pulled better from low revs, handled in a way which made it easy to ride quickly, even in light rain.
Sounded well good (how does it pass 2008 noise laws?).

Ideal, as in, i think it may well be ok to ride slowly, quite good for long-ish journeys as well as some track fun now and then.

You replying to your own topics there to get your post count up?!

Gorgeous looking bit of kit, I must blag a go on one this year to check it out for myself, I just cant ride the 916/996/998 series of bikes for any more than 20 minutes, the riding position cripples my shoulders , wrists and neck.

Yeah, stop talking to yourself!!!

Yeah, they are very nice. Does this mean you could be tempted? What colours do they come in...I've only seen the red.

Cheers.

I love Ducatis and have took the 1098 out for a road test......but as per every magazine test suggests and it is the truth Ducatis are so much harder to get the best out of on the road or track, set up etc is so important on one.

But to look at and the noise plus ownership is superb........I was quicker on my Blade and Gixer though!

I've ridden my mates a few times, and the only thing that struck me, was how good the brakes were.

I'd have that R1 over the Duc every day of the week....Stunning colour.

I hate to disagree with Chilli, the man who so often speaks such sense, but I have to say the 1098 just is the nicer looking bike. especially as I have now seen both in the flesh.

Chilli? Talk sense? I must've missed those posts wink

That Duc is gorgeous, how did they get the 999 SO wrong?

The 999 looks great from some angles but not others…the 1098 looks gorgeous from all angles and is a much nicer looking bit of kit than an R1(which I agree is probably the best looking of the jap litre bikes)

I have a new jap litre bike but im honest enough IF the 1098 was comfy enough for me to travel distance on it id rather have one

Having said that, its not worth a cool 7 big ones over the bike I currently have but if I had the disposable..

I think there was one....once, but t had nothing to do with Bikes....might have been on the subject of cats or something.

Still the R1 for me!!! Too much scaffolding on the Duc!!

i was thinking about getting a 1098 next year but to tell the truth im going to hang on to see what the new Aprilia is like mainly because its a V4 and V4> V Twin any day.

The R1.
The Duke makes all Jap bikes look ungainly and out of proportion Italian styling at its best
