Not sure, as it's not a latching button. I wondered if it might be the ecu reset, not wanting to press it while the engine is running incase all hell breaks loose????

Inertia switch reset? I know it's usually hidden but maybe Fred had a brainwave one Friday afternoon?

Ok, it might be, cos it's well hidden and out of the way. But at the risk of sounding like a dum a**, can you explane what an inertia switch is and why it needs reset?

inertia switch is activated by a hard knock to the car i.e. accident, it stops fuel from being pupmed. you need to reset it if it goes off to get fuel to the engine

its simply a safety cutout in case of accident.

i really really doubt thats the switch though

ok. thank for the info. So if it's doubtful that that would be the fuel pump reset, or fuel valve reset then where normally are the fitted.

Inertia switch is usually fitted inside the area of dashboard you're describing, behind an inspection panel in the glove box (bag?).

I've not seen a button in the position you describe.

It must be the reset button, as there isn't a button under the access flap, i doubt there are two tvrs assembled the same, so most probible.

From your description and its location it sounds exactly like the inertia fuel cut-off switch. It's not unknown for it to be triggered when there hasn't been an accident. When it has tripped it lights the LED on the dash with the 'i' symbol on it.

All cars with EFI have such a switch for the reason stated above: to stop the fuel pump running on after an accident and so prevent the possibility of fuel being pumped at high pressure out of a ruptured fuel hose on to a hot engine.

On my car it switched off the dash lights. I have rewired mine to override the fan.

Hi there
I've found that as well. When you open the flap on the passenger side there is the said(reset??)switch and another box of tricks in an aluminium box. No idea what it is either.

Anyone any ideas??

The black box has got electronics in it and to do with the dash board switchies if it's the one with a ribbon cable coming from it, never looked to see what the ribbon cable is attached to???. I'm still however trying to find where the fan blower is, it's like a wee adventure finding all sorts of buttons and black boxes on the way????

It's in a box high up in the passenger side footwell. The box is riveted and bonded in, a real pig to remove.

HI Andy,

Yea, I found a thread on here explaning this, what a nightmare. I spent most of last night just trying to find the electrical connections or plug connector just to test the blower directly. I don't really want to pull the car apart but it's not looking good. Alternitvly if i could work out the wire loom colours i'd check it from under the dash at the heater control unit connector. I'd live with out it, but i've got ICE on the inside of the car.

Hi there

Just to bounce this back to the top.

Inertia reset button gets my vote, as it's the only button I've got under the dash at that side.
