how do you remove steering wheel from e34

just got back from PH show and dam good 1 at that. brought a nice steering wheel to ditch that bus like thing and now gotta get it off. how is this done appreciated (or how ever you spell it) thank you very much

Does you car have an air bag?

if it has no air-bag, you are probably looking at a BMW badge in the middle of a three inch circle; prise this circle (not the badge) off carefully.

Under this there is probably a 22mm nut. Get a socket on it, and AFTER unlocking your steering wheel (leave the key turned in the ignition) hold the wheel in one hand and undo the nut with the other hand. Do NOT use the steering lock to hold the wheel for you.

Then wiggle/bash/work the steering wheel up towards your face, off of the splines.

After this, you can try fitting the new wheel onto the splines, and only THEN will you be sure it will fit
