folks, So I'm continuing my search for the right MR2, and it would be great if you could help me with a couple of questions?

- seems that consensus is that REV3 is the one to go for. Any comments on this?
- are ABS and LSD standard on these?
- Can I retro fit leather seats?

Many Thanks for your help!

.. oh, and most of them seem to have Nur Spec exhaust, which I think would be a bit loud for me. Can folks give me an idea as to you how much it would be to swap for something a little more sedate (looking and sounding)

TVM.

Rev 3 GT turbo will have 1/2 leather anyway.

What are you looking to spend? The Rev 5s are legal in this country now...

Not all Rev 3 cars will come with half leather - it depends on the model option you go for

I have the TRD twin exit backbox and it's perfect for the everyday commute on the m25.

go for a tin top, t-bars are a nightmare for leaking!
revs 3s don't all come with leather interior
nur spec exhaust sound awesome

my mates rev3 turbo, has no leather

have another mate did have a rev3 turbo with a nur spec exhaust and i liked the sound of it, hes currently importing his second rev3 turbo from www.gtschris.com, anything less than a rev3 isn't really worth looking at imo.

best bet is to join www.imoc.co.uk full of usefull info!

Thats my ride!!!! smile

She is pretty!

Defo go with the Rev3, I woudlnt be too bothered about which exhaust you get easily swapped for the sake of £300 ish anyway.

Roughly the single exit ones are loud and kind of raspy, twin exit's can be boomy. I have had a few on mine, the best one i had was a Jap spec one, wasnt loud, but made a nice noise. Now i have a twin exit custom one which is great for power, it is quite loud though.

LSD standard on Rev3,

Engine is also the more powerfull one, and is a far better one. It uses a Map sensor instead of an AFM, and in general they produce more than their book figure. Which is 240bhp. I took the cat of mine, and made just over 270bhp.

- seems that consensus is that REV3 is the one to go for. Any comments on this? Depends on what kind of driver you are. Rev3 onwards have moe predictable handling, if a little more prone to understeer as the limit approaches, hence some swear by their Rev1/2. Although as someone new to these cars, yep, Rev3 onwards the way to go.
- are ABS and LSD standard on these? ABS is standard on Rev3 onwards cars yes. With regards to LSD's, depend whether you are talking turbo or N/A. As said, turbo cars all had them (IIRC), but most N/A's won't, unless fitted as an option (optional on Rev4/5 I believe) or aftermarket.
- Can I retro fit leather seats? If they came out of another MR2 mk2, then yes of course.

Many Thanks for your help!

Thanks for all your help folks, I had kind of set my heart on buying a private one as the ones I have seen in dealers always seem to look very tatty.

..having said that, the GTSchris site looked really good.

looks like it will be a Rev3+ one then.

Cheers, ace

Not all rev3s have ABS either. It was an option on the more driver focused GT-S models.

cool, and are GTS and T-Top mutually exclusive, or did they make such a thing as a GTS T-Top?

I believe the GT-S was the 'driver focused' model so no ttop, though you could spec a gt-s up to a GT quite easily so who knows!

JDM cars :
G-Limited - NA, don't bother wink
GT-S - basic turbo car, with a large option list.
GT - alacantera/leather seats, steering fog lights, folding wing mirrors, Premium sound system etc.

JDM cars were either tin top or T-bar .. across the range.

Full leather was a UK only option, only on cars with T-bars.
The standard UK car (GTi-16) had cloth seats.

EUDM cars were moonroof or T-bar.

I'm looking very seriously at an MR2 as a toy/track car. Want to stick with UK ones not JDM simply for the insurance...

So for the money (£1500 +/-) I'm borderline Rev2/Rev3. Rev3 better handling they say - and do they all have LSDs or was that just JDM ones mentioned above?

Do the T-bars all leak? I'd really like one, but if it's going to leak I can't be arsed.

What do I need to look out for in particular? I've been told rust on door sills and wheelarches, smoke...
