The Blower motor has just failed, i've checked the usuall problems withthe ribbon cable and switch/pot aswell as fuses. Electrically it all checks out but i don't have a clue how to check the opperation of the ME0227 Heater Control Unit, just a black box to me. I see Bell Hill Garage sell them at a fraction of the price as racing green all be it second hand units. Does any one have a circuit diagram/schmatic for Chimaera's/Griffs fitted with variable speed blower controls or a wire colour key, or a link. Also has anyone managed to remove or check the blower motor for opperation. Help would be appreciated. John

A resistance check of the motor in situ should show if it's gone open circuit. Further, apply 12V to it to test - I think the main problem with them is that they seize.

Main problem with control unit is that the terminals burn in the connector, but this is easy to see with the dash top off. It's also easy to repair. I've never had one open but I can only imagine it uses off-the-shelf components.

Thanks Andy,

I've checked the connections and nothing looks burnt, i opened up the ontrol unit, wow, what a complicated box of electronics, i'm sure it could be a lot simpler, but hay ho.

I was thinking of putting 12VDC on to the motor direct but haven't worked out how to gain access to the motor or electrical connections. If i could work out the pin numbers or wire colours at the control unit i put 12v onto the motor there. Any help would be great.

Got a circuit diagram for a 3stage fan type blower, but this unit is a variable speed type but i notice there are still 3 wires going down to the motor from the speed controller under the dash top. Does anyone know if the motor is still a 3stage type with built in resistor or has the motor terminals been changed to suit the speed controller. Any help would be great.

just tested the blower today by putting 12volt on it directly and guess what, i need to dig out the blower and replace, is it as bad a job as it looks, and can any one confirm the make and part number or original car(s) it from. J

Could you measure resistance across the motor? It may be jammed, or the resistor pack failed - which seem to be the most common faults (PITA to get out - couple of threads if you search I think).

hi guys,

I've got the variable speed type on my car, only 2wire down to the motor, strange how it's done though, the motor has it's own 12VDC supply and the neg or zero volt goes back to the control unit. Anyway, i measured the resistances, open circuit between live n zero, also banged on 12Volt right across the motor terminals, no go. So now i know it not the button or the controller, almost wish it was the controller, only 35notes from bellhill garage and so easy to swap over. The blower must be the most difficult part in the whole car to gain access to, never mind remove and replace. Phoned around a couple of local breakers today and no joy with any mark II astras, so wondering if any of you guys know what other doner cars a blower could be got from. I really don't fancy giving Cleaver Trev 85quid for something only worth half that at most brand new. I know tight git, but hay leaves me more money to pore in the fuel tank.

If it was from a MkII astra, what's the one in a Daewoo nexia like, as that was based on the astra wasn't it ? Just thought you ma have more luck finding one of those in a breakers as they're newer ?

Fixed, it was a broken wire on the blower motor, got to be the worst job ever to get access, remove and re-fit. Lost the will to live a couple of times. If anyone else has a blower not working, check every other component first before attempting to remove the blower. Very clever place to put it, but OMG just wish the factory gave a little thought to it's repair or replacement.

Only 11 days, yours must have been one of the easy ones hehe

I have said (a few times at least) before it is probably the most daunting job on the Chim IMO, fully agree to try everything else firstwink
