I have seen a few other holiday threads. Sorry if this has been done - links please?

My wife and I are planning on taking our Griff into Europe for a couple of weeks. Probably late August. In particular I'd like to visit Salzburg and Vienna. After that we'll probably head South into northern Italy and stay around one of the lakes. Accomdation is expected to be a combination of hotels in the cities and camping elsewhere.

There are a number of areas in which I'd welcome info:
1. Good driving routes from Calais to Salzburg (we're totally flexible) and Vienna to Garda.
2. Other points of interest along the way?
3. Hotels in Salzburg and Vienna ? With reasonably secure parking.
4. Anybody else around at this time want to meet?

Thanks everybody.

Gmunden in Austria is nice. Just a short jaunt off the salzbur to Vienna road. It is on Lake Traunsee. Zell am See is also splendid for views, swimming etc... and only just south of Salzburg

I drove down there a couple of years ago in the Summer - beautiful warm fresh water lakes and breathtaking scenery. Austria is my favourite country - not only for the views and beer but also the Austrians themselves - excellent fun people.

I'm heading to Northern Italy in October...

I'm planning to head from Calais down through Reims, Metz, Strasburg, Basel, Zurich, St Moritz to Como our final destination.

Planning on taking three days over it though a full day will be spent knocking around St Moritz.

Not entirely sure on geographies, but the French places may be heading in your general direction and I've selected them as historic town/cities to visit.

Hope this gives you a few ideas...

Cheers
