Boot catch sticking
Discussion
The catch on the boot seems to be gewtting increasingly difficult to release. I currently have to pull the lid upwards while pushing the button to get it to release at all. Ordinarily, it would drift some way down the to do list, but I'm a bit worried about stranding myself not being able to fuel up.
Is this a common fault/is there an easy fix, or is it a case of take the catch out and wiggle it around until it works better?
Oh, and the "secret" way in (which I don't know) - without disclosing what it is, would this still get me into the boot, or is at just an additional electric switch for the boot lock? (Feel free to disregard if the answer gives away security info).

You just need to access the cable that pulls the catch. There is a 'bolt' that needs aligning and tightening. This is attached to a wire that is pulled by the solenoid . It is a two minute job.
Cheers. I assume it'll all be pretty obvious once I take off the trim/fuzzy felt from the rear wall of the boot, yeah?Nefarious said:

I have a related problem: I have to 'massage' the badge a lot to get it to open (can hear the solenoid trying but boot doesn't open). I've tried loosening the catch a bit but no joy. Presumably new/stronger solenoid required(?)

Could be that you have too much slack on the rod and it is not pulling the lock mechanism far enough...Nefarious said:

Try a bit of WD40 or similar on all of the various parts. Is this a common fault/is there an easy fix, or is it a case of take the catch out and wiggle it around until it works better?
To access the complete mech you need to pull the carpet off the rear wall of the boot. Check that the solenoid is pulling the rod far enough. Adjust the grub screw to suit.

Yea, could be. I'll have another go. Think there was a few mm of cable between the end piece and the mech. Will take a look when I get it back, hopefully NEXT WEEK! (
). Must clear all the crap out the garage.

I have a problem with my boot catch as well, though it is slightly different to the OP, mine now has play in it - almost like the catch is only half-on. You can slam it and it goes all the way down, but then just apply a little pressure upwards and it clicks up to the 'second level'. It's still locked so no problem, but it's bloody annoying and I'd rather it closed all the way and stayed there...
