Bristol Street, Newcastle - Anyone?
Discussion
Fellas, Anyone used this garage for servicing? Car due it's 20,000 mile serivce in a few months and was contemplating taking it there. However it's always good to know if someones tested the water, so to speak. It is the 2nd closest authorised dealer to me at 175 miles away.
Either that or Pentagon (Burton-on-Trent) 300 miles away
Or it's Monkfish at 380 miles
Cheers

I don't mind the travel to be honest...an excuse to drive
The car is still under Warranty ('56 plate Ro) and I would probably prefer to take it to a Monaro/vxr8 Vauxhall dealer. I believe Warranty is valid if Vauxhall parts are used however... so I could take it to someone more local, but who I don't know...
My closest Vxr8 dealer is only 30 miles away, however I had an item stolen from my car the last time it went there so I refuse to cross their palms with silver.

Sherwoods at Darlington have an authorised monaro/vxr8 department. Got a 10K service there a few months ago and very helpful. Its about 6o miles from Newcastle, always an option. Bramalls at Middlesbrough, put me onto them as they were listed as the authorised service department, but no longer are.
Yeah, the guys here in newcastle are hopeless... Wouldn't use them. Had a few problems with them and gave up in the end. Let alone try and take a new VXR8 for a test drive, cause the manager has got the car, and they said we don't think we will sell any of them. I take mine to a bloke at gateshead, who is pretty good.

Cheers mate, this could be top of the list now
tbh if I was you I'd buy the parts and oil you want and take it to a local dealer. I use Peter's car company in Motherwell for basic service stuff and they only let 1 senior mechanic anywhere near my car, he's getting to know his way round mine quite well now :-) As well as basic services he's replaced my diff and gearbox oil and fitted my VXR brakes for me. As long as you use GM spec components anyone can do the service for you and your warranty is unaffected afaik.
Block Exemption Regulations Explained
In October 2003 European Union Legislation affecting the motor trade came into force. Its full title is 'Block Exemption Regulations 1400/2002' (in short 'BER').
This legislation changes the way cars may be serviced and repaired and gives motorists a lot more freedom in their decision as to who should look after their cars.
Before BER, it was very difficult to have cars, which were still covered by the manufacturer's warranty, serviced anywhere except a franchised dealer.
Now motorists can use any garage of their choice to service their cars without invalidating the manufacturer's warranty.*
The latest revision of the BER introduced four 'freedoms' that are aimed at safeguarding free competition in the entire market for vehicle spare parts, service and repair. They affect the way in which the parts distributor can act in the market.
Freedom for a franchised dealer and/or and 'authorised repairer' to purchase up to 70% of their purchases of 'original spare parts' and 'matching quality' spare parts from independent market operators of their choice. This means: Parts Factors can supply parts of appropriate quality to Dealers and authorised repairers without the Vehicle Manufacturer/Assembler using the dealer/repairer contracts or other means to prevent them.
The freedom for parts manufacturers/suppliers to sell their Original Equipment-components without restrictions into independent wholesalers or independent repairers. This means: Parts manufacturers can no longer be forced by their 'Original Equipment' contract to limit supply of certain parts to the Vehicle Manufacturer/Assembler. The end of the 'tied parts' arrangements.
The freedom for parts manufacturer/suppliers to brand their 'original equipment parts' with their own logo. This means: Motorists and garages will be able to identify the manufacturer of a component when it is removed from a vehicle and source its replacement from any distributor of the part. They will no longer feel that they 'have' to go to a dealer for a part.
An extension to the obligation on vehicle assemblers to pass on technical information to operators in the independent aftermarket. This information includes, for instance:
Access to electronic systems for controlling the vehicle's operation
Right of "reprogramming" information to correct maladjustment
This means: Anyone with a legitimate need for technical information - parts manufacturers - remanufacturers - distributors - factors - garages - technical publishers - security companies - will have a right of access to it in a usable form and at a reasonable cost (the same cost as charged to anyone within the VAs network)
