Given that most of us have our cars serviced by main dealers, or reliable independents and that most of us have warranties on our cars, I wonder why more of us don't sell to each other and avoid the crippling mark ups the dealers impose. For instance, I would like to exchange my 2000, low mileage, 360 F1 coupe for a late model 360 F1 spider without lining the pockets of a dealer. I wonder is that possible??!!

With you on that one I wish to part exchange my 360 spider for a 360cs (if anyone wants to go that route) as main dealer really does want to pull your pants down with his trade in offer.
Not sure that everyone will have warranty on their cars I don't as I have had it longer than the warranty given when I bought it. Have always taken the risk when buying private. I would buy a cs without a warranty if the car stacked up no problem.

Just needs someone to set-up a car-exchange club really! Nominal membership fee to cover running costs and loads of members all with a variety of cars ready to swap along with the appropriate bundle of cash when trading-up.

When selling, post the car on PH classifieds, priced between dealer bid and selling price. If buying, do so from a private seller on PH clasifieds and get and inspection done. If you really want, buy a warranty with part of the saving on dealer price. Hey presto... dealer bid/offer gone !!

The problem is most people will want to trade from a lower priced car to a higher priced car.

Exactly not many people trade down.
