...and no-one had a clue.
For the SVA do tires have to carry European test markings and appropriate speed ratings ? If so how do you get a Cobra with 15" wheels through ?

1. Every tyre (not being a retreaded tyre) fitted

that were moulded on to or into the tyre at the
time that it was manufactured which provide the
following service information --
(a) nominal size;
(b) construction type (e. g. radial ply);
(c) load capacity; and
(d) speed capability.
For the purposes of this item -
"BS AU 144e - 1988” has the same meaning as in
the Motor Vehicles Tyres (Safety) Regulations
1994 (b) ;
"corresponding standard" shall be construed in

paragraph.
Paragraph 2 shall not apply to a
tyre fitted to a vehicle , if the
tyre provides a level of safety
equivalent to that provided by
a tyre that complies with the
requirements of that paragraph

- 1988 .
Paragraph 3( c) and (d) shall not
apply to a tyre fitted to a
vehicle for which information on
the load capacity and speed
capability have been
separately provided.
(b) S. I. 1994/ 3117ഊ4. Each tyre fitted to the vehicle shall be of a
nominal size appropriate to the wheel to which it
is fitted.
5. Tyres on the same axle shall be of the same

also be fitted to the rear and if bias- belted tyres
are fitted to the front axle, radial or bias- belted
tyres shall be fitted to the rear.
6. Each wheel on each axle shall be equipped
with a tyre which has a load capacity such that
when the axle is loaded to its maximum permitted
axle weight, the weight transmitted to the road
surface by that tyre does not exceed that load
capacity.
7. The speed capability of all tyres fitted shall be
not less than the maximum design speed of the
vehicle.

Cant see that it's really a problem - you can get W rated 50/60/70 profile 15 inchers that would do the job (unless you quoted the max design speed at 170 or something on the form..)

Thanks guys W rated tires seem all to be US marked only, but presumably what Graham quoted would then apply, based on their American ratings ?

Edited to add: W rated is 168mph IIRC ???

I'm pretty sure that all tyres for sale in Europe have to have an E - mark, regardless of rating.

Yeah, W is 168 according to the table below (which I cut n' pasted from somewhere):

Q 99
R 106
S 112
T 118
