Hi !
Bought an S1 Elise last month and took it on its first trackday this weekend, but had a (very gentle) rear-end shunt in the pit lane, now the three brake lights don't work. Any tips on what might be an easy fix? The rear lights and reversing lights all still work fine, and there is no damage to the paintwork... Thanks for any help!

I had that, well not the shunt (nearly when MiniD didn't realise I was stopping), it turned out to be a duff blub, it was shorting out blowing the fuse each time the brake peddle was pressed.

Have you checked the cabling in the boot?

if all brake lights not working and wiring/fuse ok, must be the switch which is tucked away in the pedal box but quite easy to replace (S1)

Just checked all the cabling and it all seems fine, no loose connections, which is sort of what I'd been expecting.
So next stop is checking all looks right with pedal box switch (if a visual check will reveal anything?) Is this a DIY job?
Thanks again for the ideas!

Alternatively, how do I check which fuse is used for the brake lights and whether it's gone?

the switch is one of lotus' less well engineered items ... I had to replace on my S1, quite easy DIY operation, access from the bonnet, follow the wires!

the switch is adjusted by a simple push and twist, if you remove it you will see why. You may find it's out of adjustment in which case you won't need a new one, but whil you have it out you can see if this is the problem by removing the spade connections and shorting them together, with ignition on you should get brake lights. If not it's some other problem!!! HTH

You may be pleased to know that a new switch is under a tenner!

Now sorted, thanks! It was the little pedal switch under the bonnet - a bit of a twist and the brake lights now all work again!
