Just got a shock in the post - one of my cars' road tax expired end of October. Not one I normally drive (not the Griff), but fair cop - all my fault. £40 fine (£80 if I respond in over two weeks) plus charge for unpaid time on tax disc.

But this got me thinking. Reminders are computer generated. Computers don't forget. But, say there are 15 million cars on the road, and say DVLA 'forgets' to send reminders to 1% of these, and, like me, half of these drivers don't notice, then DVLA collects £3m pa in fines. Conspiracy theory anyone?
