Can anyone recommend a chain oil that stays on the chain and does not fly off all over the place..

Also - are there any tricks to keeping it on the chain rather that all over my lovely clean bike smile

I use Plutoline Racing on the Trials Bike. Not as "gummy" as some and stays on the chain. Given the Crap Trials bike's go through I think it does a good job.

Thirded.

Never go near the Motrax stuff - still getting it out of the walls of the garage, etc...

the great chain lube debate...everyone recommends what they are currently using...and you go and buy whatever the stockist you always go to has in stock.. admit it!

Ive tried most of them, I lube the chain after every ride (little and often) and cant really tell one against the other,i can tell you that having a long spout or straw which delivers a "narrow "squirt of lube stops it going all over the wheel and swing arm in the first place, thats the only thing I look for.

That sounds like good advice.. letting it soak in before riding it again..

can't say I have ever done that myself. I always have at least 1 extra than I need. If I get to the last one and need to top myself back up and they don't have what I want to go elseware or get it online

If you have an X ring sealed chain or even an O ring one then you can put what you like on it as the seals will keep out the oil anyhow! I used 3 in 1 oil with PTFE and cleaned the chain with it reularly but never left it wet at all. Never had an issue and I learnt that from some others who had serious bits of kit on the road. Additionally all this anti fling stuff just attracts the dirt and crap around you. If your lazy - spray away to your hearts content, if not clean yr chain regular with oil and wipe clean guys! you wont have a problem then.

Just my 10 pence worth of experiance.

Dont use WD40 as it evaporates away. OK for short term protection or squeak stopping but thats it. 3 in 1 spray oil is just that - oil.

I'd been told not to use the dry chain lube. Can't remember why. Am using Putoline but it does seem to fling off a bit.

Has anybody been using dry chain lube for a long time (> 10k miles) and not had any problems ?

Dont use WD40 full stop, its solvent based and will flush out that lovely lubricating oil from the rollers, pins and attack those “O” and “X” rings…so No, you cant use just any oil on an “O” ring chain.

Most bike manufacturers recommend cleaning the chain in paraffin and lubricating with engine oil, I suppose(but don’t know for sure) 3 in 1 is a close enough match.

I used Muc off Chain Lube, found it decent enough. Used the chain cleaner evey time i washed the bike, then applied the lube with no problems. It came with a straw attachement, so bike on centre stand, stick it in first gear and spray on. Didn't seem to throw any of it onto the back wheel either

The only point in lubing an o or x ring chain is to stop the rings from drying out as the lube is sealed into the rollers by the rings...

Old engine oil and regular cleaning with paraffin has helped my current DID X-ring chain last over 25k so far wink

Yep - no problems here. I don't lube enough as it is (fnar fnar). I've done nearly 20k on the blade & have always used Wurth dry lube. The chain has barely needed adjustment...how much of this is down to me hardly ever riding in the wet, not given it the full beans all the time, or some other unknown factor I dunno yes

The chain on my 929 didn't need adjusting for the first 10k miles. I then took the gearbox sprocket cover off for some reason and found a mountain of shit had built up which the chain ran over. Cleaned that out and the chain was *way* past it's stretch point. Worth a look as 20k miles is a hell of a long way to go without requiring adjustment. Mine's done nearly 33k and I'm on my 4th chain.
