My Dad is leasing a Touareg and I'm trying to convince him to get lots of nice options but he's arguing the point on every single one. Is the £95 option for 'electric boot operation' (or something similarly worded) worth going for? I figure that for £95 it was worth seeing what it does but he wants to know if it is fully electric boot operation (like an S-class or 7 series) or just electric latching like a really old Merc estate? He'll probably decide he'd rather save the money and use his arms to close the boot anyway (he's not really got the spirit of buying a luxury car right)

At the moment it's definitely a 3.0 V6 TDi SE, probably with 19" Siena alloys, and unless I can convince otherwise will come with nothing else. SE has 6.5" sat nav screen and dual zone climate control so that's the important things sorted (actually if it's the same sat nav as the new passat it is CRAP) but it would be nice to have some of the options. I want parking sensors, just because it makes it so much nicer to maneouver, but he's worried it might cause problems when towing - can it be disabled?

He also wants the top-end leather (nappa?) but is baulking at the price. Anything else to consider? I want Xenons but he doesn't care. To be honest I wanted him to get an X5 but he refuses blankly because its a BMW and he doesn't want to look like someone who buys a new BMW rolleyes moron.

If he intends on handing it back at the end of the lease then don't worry - but a used Touareg with not toys is virtually unsaleable. The more the better!

Yes I think he'll hand it back so resale value isn't a problem. But it's just that I had use of a new shape 735i bmw recently and really got to like all the toys - adaptable suspension, parking sensors with display on the monitor, idrive, electric heated and cooled seats, electric blinds and so on. I'd personally like us to have a car that captures that feeling of other-worldly luxury high tech uber-bargeness, whereas I suspect a basic Touareg is actually rather disappointing when compared to a decently specced 7-series, and just feels like a raised up Passat, or perhaps a Land Rover Discovery.

I would say parking sensors and xenons are essential.
