Piano lessons only for kids?
Discussion
Ok... I have two left hands. I have no ear for music whatsoever. I can appreciate good music but I can't sing or hum a tune or anything.
Could I learn to play the old joanna?
A guy I know walks into hotels, sits down at the piano (doesn't even ask!) and starts thumping out a bit of elton john or some classical stuff.
I'm jealous, and I'd like to be able to at least sit down and play something simple from start to finish.
Do I need to be gifted, or can anyone learn it?

I would say have a go, what have you got to lose? I had a bunch of lessons when I was a kid, but was never a natural or even close. After a very long break, I've recently got back into piano and keyboards, and I've been teaching myself some tunes and having a lot of fun. I honestly believe I have little more musical ability than your average dead dog, but I'm doing ok - my latest is a lovely version of 'Speak Softly Love' from the Godfather movie, which I found in a book called 'Dead Simple Movie Songs For Piano' or some such.
ETA: If you get cable/sat TV, Rockworld channel has 'Let's Play Keyboards' at about 0930 most mornings which is fun for picking up a few pointers..
EFTA: No, not just for kids! I've known a number of adults who take music lessons, and I'm considering some more piano lessons myself.
