Memory card inTomtom
Discussion
I have the same problem so will be interested to see if you get any replies. My guess is that you need to backup the old card and then restore it to the new one. There must be some software in addition to the maps stored on the card. Problem I have is that both the card and backup for the unit have been lost.
When you say no old card, what do you mean, is it a new model (which model is it) one with no SD card and just a hard drive?
I had the original 128mb card in mine, but as things moved on it was getting full, so I got a 512mb card and all I did was copy all the info from the original card onto the computer, then copied that straight on to the new card and it worked straight away, nothing else was done eg; no formating.
You can clear up some space by deleting all the languages you do not want.

I am using a 1GB ScanDisk SD card, work fine with my TomTom One. You should have done a check to see what cards work best with your TomTom. Some out there do have problems with Some SD cards.

OK I have cracked this now. I also had a TomTom one with no card. I bought the unit new last year but the card was nicked by a former employee.
Go to the TomTom web site and download the latest version of TomTom Home. The CD version supplied with the unit doesn’t solve the problem but the new one does.
When you have Home installed put a blank SD card in the unit and press the reset button on the underside (use a paper clip or the like). Now connect the unit and PC and select or rather accept download updates. The application software is then installed and you will have a working unit but without any maps. Now you need to buy and download a map which home will install for you. Luckily I found a backup of the original maps for the unit that the guy who left had made on his work PC so I just put them back on the card.
Have to say that the email help is rather vague and it is very frustrating tha you can’t actually speak to someone , I guess they are working from a list of standard replies and offer up the one that fits best.

They try very hard to deal with all queries on-line, probably because they have so many. However, I had a major problem recently and kept badgering them until finally they came up with this:
Tel: 0845 161 0009
You can reach us on this number Monday - Friday between 08.00 and 18.30 UK time.
I think you need to have given them details of the problem on-line first, so you have an incident number, but in fairness I have to say that after a couple of phone calls I was able to resolve about 95% of the problem.
One thing they don't tell you is that if you buy and download a new map it erases all the Favourite locations you've carefully stored, in my case over 18 months, including such gems as the back roads entrance to Spa-Francorchamps!
