Can anyone help explain what the following stamping on the gearbox I have just picked up tells me? what are the ratios and does it have LSD?

G96002009977

I have looked at most of the previous topics without success.
Thanks
David

yep I think that I can be of some help to you here.

The G96 is a 996 gearbox, the 00 is the first generation, the 020 designates that it is a LSD, and the rest is pretty much just a serial number. Some of it will tell you the year, but the important information is listed above.

Are you looking for one of these?

Let me know if there is anything else that I can help you with. Especially if you are on the hunt for a transaxle.

Warmest Regards,

Thanks Guy's,
Now going to spend an enjoyable few hours, degreasing, cleaning, etch priming etc.etc.
One other question, I note that there is a breather on the top of the box, do I have to do anything to this when the box is inverted? or do we just let the oil come out!

The factory do an invert kit which changes the vent to a drain and the drain to a vent plus adds a vent in the side.
Nothing that you can't do for yourself though.
