Great to see there's life in the old dog yet! Although the article was quite superficial (I suspect there's going to be some more in-depth follow ups) it gives a nice summary of what upgrades are out there.

Has anyone seen the new Cossie RV8 block? What improvements have they made - is it stronger for example?

Adam - yes you are right .. the article looked great but ultimely was just selling Mark Adams services .. which is no bad thing I suppose..

I talked to an engine builder yesterday and talked about the cossie block ..

In short the old company that took over from Rover a few years ago doing the forgings - collapsed..

Looks like Cosworth Foundry bought the business .. in short there are no changed to the block at all..

And you probably would not want changes anyway - after all - any existing parts would not fit..

If you look at what could be improved -

Camshaft location (too close to crank sweep) - limits high lift cams
Crank - Mains could be bigger ..
Heads .. Not that great..

Many existing parts would now not fit ..

Yeah but - if the bottom end were stronger (e.g. if they did a cross bolted bottom end cradle) that would improve things.

Some of the oiling could be improved, for example to the timing chain/oil pump drive area.

There are probably lots of improvements that can be made that retain compatability with the other parts. Reading between the lines I thought that Cossie had done something, but there was no detail about what.

The block is already x bolted..

If you put a steel crank in it - it's good for 8~9K rev's..

Its good to see, I'll gert round to reading most of it one day!!!

I did notice that according to a couple of dates in the article it was written 2 years ago!!

It would be nice to have some service guidelines as, since my extra chassis bill, I want to do my own servicing on mine, and front pads if possible. I suppose I should find that in the bible or the wedgepages anyway?

Woody

Servicing is easy .. what is in the service is in the back of the cars owners manual..

From what you have done on your car so far - I'd say you are more than capable..
