Hi all - I am seeking to clean the Portland Grey gearbox/handbrake central console on my Mk1 and would appreciate a recommendation for a quality cleaning product. I am minded to use Gliptone, but if my memory serves, the material used on this area of the Mk 1 was vinyl and NOT leather - hence my wariness at using a leather cleaner. Neutral Soap flakes dissolved in warm water also come to mind.

If your car is half leather the centre console will be the leather look ambla(or whatever it's called), your seats will be leather and the rest the fake stuff. If so, lightly soapy water works fine to clean mine. If that does not work, ask the nearest woman.

If it's leather there is a few products around, I'm sure others will be able to comment.

Magic eraser from wilkinsons or similar shops.

break a section off, dip in water, gently rub, wipe with a dry cloth and be amazed at how dirty it actually is.

Did the interor on Daisy last year, I couldnt belive the colour.

You can get this stuff... from Woolies, etc, and it works a treat!

Ignore your snobbery and preconceptions and give it a go - for a few quid what have you got to lose?!?

You could always get the bird to do it...I'd do it myself IIWY!! wink

...Damn! Beaten to it...and by a bird! smile
