Castrol SRF will do just fine - it's an excellent quality fluid, but to be honest you'll pay a lot more for it and you won't notice any difference whatsoever for road or track day use... to be honest, the frequency it is changed is far more important than the manufacturer.

Brake fluid isn't particularly complicated stuff to manufacture, chemically, so just use whatever DOT5 (NOT DOT 5.1, which is silicone based and not suitable for the Elise) fluid you can readily obtain at your local motor factors and change it regularly.

Er, I could be wrong but I thought DoT 5 was silicone and must not be mixed but DoT 5.1 was OK to mix with standard fluids? I hope so, because I've been using DoT 5.1 in my car for a while now!

Yes, Sorry! paperbag

You're quite correct - DOT 5.1 is safe, DOT 5 is silicone!

I bet - at that price it should make the car go twice as fast.

Bog std DOT4 will be fine, something like Castrol Response is perfect or even the Halfords stuff, the secret is to bleed it properly. If you want to go a bit better, I use AP600 which Demon Tweeks also sell and it's about £15 a botle plus theft.

SRF is overkill (and overpriced) for your application.

yes well-bled brakes with fresh fluid is worth any amount of fancy fluid specification. The best brake fluid in the world isn't worth a damn if there are air bubbles or absorbed moisture between the pedal and the pistons.

I reckon the "improved feel" people credit to braided hoses is 90% caused by the new fluid and a decent bleed of the system.
