Looking at getting one of these, i'd like the racing puma but can't afford one. Wondered, what differences were there on the normal 1.7 compared to the racing 1.7? what was done to raise the power by 30(ish)BHP?

Different cams, inlet manifold and exhaust. Think the ecu had a different map as well?
Then there was the brakes, dampers, front and rear wings, wheels, interior. Basically, I think it's pricey to up-spec a regular 1.7 to FRP standard. But in the lighter car (1.7 is a fair bit lighter than FRP) it would make more difference. Might need Mondeo V6 or ST150 brakes though.
Some FRPs going for silly money at the moment (£5k!!) you might pick up a bargain. Beware of tired and neglected examples though.

Spares for the FRP are gettimg VERY thin on the ground... no interiors left.. less than 10 of some body panels...
