Isn´t it written in the UK rulebook somewhere that drag cars have to have a car engine,
and drag bikes have to have a bike engine ?
OK OK, there maybe a sports coupé in Japan (manufactured by a small company AFAIK),
that IS powered by a Hayabusa motor, but does that count ?
I think in germany "bike-powered cars" would be not legal.
I was surprised to see the swedish (?) bike-powered dragster a few days ago in the net.

Benni

There used to be a Kawasaki engined rail in the 1990's. I think it eventually got in the 7's. Last I knew it was in it's trailer in Abingdon.

I saw the KAWA rail, too, and it was already part of a topic here :
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
But that was then, would it still be legal now (with -electric- reverse gear) ?
Car-engined bikes are not legal in NHRA (AFAIK),
therefore the awesome blown buick V6 Bike is only doing exhibition runs ?
Damn can´t find a pic of it now.

Benni

well i would think that bike engined cars are legal, there is a class for them in the NHRA and GBC produce bike engined funnycars that are legal for super pro in the nhra and tsgged to 7.50, since our rules are based on theres id think they are legal, maybe dnac can comfirm this? although i cant think of any reason they wouldnt be legal!

just out of interest, gerd harberman has a mini pro funnycar sponsored by dhl, i know its had a few runs but not sure if its racing or what times its doing.

ive been looking at getting a gbc mini pro funnycar and putting a turbocharged kawasaki zzr1400 in it, should go like sh!t off a shovel, however wont be for a couple of years yet. LOL turbo suggested his old motor to me the other day, however i couldnt afford it if i wanted to, plus i think id be racing against spuffard if i had that kinda power in such a light vehicle!...that would scare me to death!

As far as I am aware car engined bikes are legal in Top Fuel Bike over here - I believe it is within the rules to run an injected nitro v8. If Mr King is around these parts he may know more, being at the heart of Top Fuel Bike.

Dave Branch ran a nitro MGB engine in his bike for some time , was a long time ago of course

One of the safety crew from Avon Park had a small dragster using a GPZ1100 engine , i remember him asking Tim Blakemore for advice about it

As for the fastest bike engine car, I believe that Tiger Sports cars held the record for their twin hyabusa engined lotus 7 replica thing.

As for if bike engines are allowed I'll look it up and get back to you.

It was Andy Wilcox from FAST that had this car. He is on Santa Pod crew now as far as I know. Think it was called Firefighter or something similar.

Dave Ellis and Paul Pickett ran 'Exile' in the 90's which was Kawasaki powered.
It ran in the 8's.

hey adam

thanks for that, i didnt see any reason that bike engines would be illegal. i think the only thing id need to consider is if i wanted to run in super pro et at some point then id need an electric reverse because of burning out across the line. but 1 step at a time, like i said it will eb a couple of years yet and id be entereing pro et first, however the mini funnycars are such a cool little car, and even witha standard r1 or hayabusa engine in they would run high 9s, low tens, witha turbo hayabusa on n20 there is one that runs high 7s in the states....too qquick for me tho at teh moment!

Doesn't matter how fast or class you go in, you must have a reverse gear

cool thanks for that info dnac, thought i read somewhere that if you burnout across the line you have to have a reverse, may have been in the rwyb rules tho!......id always have one anyway for convenience more than anything

yeh its easy to do, the easiest thing is to get an electric reverse box from someone like quaife, costs about 500 quid, but its pretty much a bolt on part, pretty standard in bike engine kit cars
