Drove back into London via the M20 last night at around 2:30am in the morning. Not a single lorry or car in sight for miles. I floor the loud pedal and get to about 120mph, which I kept for about 5mins. Suddenly the BiB turned up right behind me in their BMW, lights and all flashing. I stopped and prepared for a ban, court appearance and kissing goodbye to my license. After a million appologies, attempts at making myself smaller than the grass on side of the motorway and a 15 minutes telling off and lecturing by the Plod I was let go! The BiB basically said, that whilst what I did was not to be condoned and encouraged in any way, given the circumstances - lack of any traffic, my good driving (no lane changing or anything of the kind) and the ownership of a Shark, they could see my point of view too...

Once again well done and thank you for using common sense and experience in your judgement!

If im totally honest here (and i always am)...i would say that you were very lucky and i dont know of any Trafpol that would have let someone off for travelling at that speed.

Have you put the Lottery on recently?

Come to think of it...i dont know of any Scamera vans that would either.!

I guess what worked in my favor was the total lack of traffic. The M20 looked like a deserted airport runaway...I was also very humble and apologetic, quick to admit that I was indeed travelling a bit faster than the limit ...

P.S. Who gets to drive the Police BMWs? BTW, the majority of the Plod drivers in BMWs seem to follow the General BMW Code of Conduct on the Motorways

BMWs are our new Trafpol cars......for the MetPolce anyway.

BMW have now got the contract for supplying all Police cars and Motorcycles........and they are very nice to drive.

For the recoed, they dont hog the middle lanes and have been fitted with indicators for Police use.

You were very lucky!

Having said that, I know someone (and by that I mean a close member of my family so this is not 'my mate knows someone whose sister's boyfriends dog said...') who got caught doing 140mph on a motorbike on the motorway and let off by the traffic plod (who, incidentally, he didn't realise were chasing him and had left for dead until he slowed down to about 100mph). Said person then got done for 36mph in a 30mph zone in a Diesel Fieasta a few months later (the one and only time he's ever received points) - the irony!

M20 plod are quite good - go up and down the full length every day and they are pretty calm. Late one night I found myslef running in convoy with an Audi at 100ish (similar conditions - generally empty road sensible driving etc) for about 30 miles. Only to find it was an unmarked police car! no tug just a flash of the lights at the end as he put on the blues and twos and pulled a ropey escort.

What next - unmarked M3s I suppose, just like in Deutschland? Hope not - 525 TDS should do at the most

Nice one!!! this happened to me too, on the way back from Le Mans this year.

230am nobody about , me with the loud pedal turned upto full volume. BiB let me off with a "chat". Couldn't fault the driving or the fact that the car was handling fine with nothing wrong with it, but wanted me to tune down the speed a bit.

Fair cop, cop! I thought!

Funny you should say that as I was about to say the same thing. Me and the missus were on our way back from Brighton and I was pushing 90 ish when I saw a white Volvo estate fly up behind me, so I immediately lifted off to avoid giving tell-tale brake lights. He sped up beside me, gave a stern look and made a patting motion with left hand before steaming off! I just assumed he had other matters to attend to.

IIRC the plod on the M40 have a red M reg 5 series Beemer as their unmarked car, it's usually lurking round Oxford neck of the woods. Apparently the police on the M4 have a black 911, sounds a bit posh for a plod car though! Nottingham police are the lucky ones though, there's a few marked Scoobys up there.
what do you mean about the patting with the left hand though? was he trying to make dubious suggestions as to your sexuality or something?

LMAO Maybe that was it, maybe he was propositioning me!

I can see the Daily Mail headline now, "M20 is High-Speed Gay Police Hotbed".
