Afternoon all...
I'm looking for a run-around for work and for Kart transportation as i don't want to keep using my Nob in poor weather conditions! Budget is around £3k and it has to cater for the following.
1. Have a roof rack to put my Kart on (or be big enough to put it in)
2. Preferably be an Estate to fit all my Kart gear in!
3. Be reliable but fun to drive
4. Not be anything pony like a Diesel powered Rover!
I was first looking at getting a VW Transporter T4 Van but half decent ones seem to be allot of dosh! So i have been looking at the Subaru Impreza Wagon and Legacy Outback, the Volvo T5 or possibly a Beemer Touring? Any other suggestions would be great?

Yeah just a bit.
As you said T5 would be a good idea, although as they are quite rare I think you can get 2.0 - 2.2 turbo 850's

Was cat D 10 years ago but so what. Considering all the others are selling with 140k-170k on the clock, this is a bargin with 75k with at least another 75k to go.

Or as you say a V70 2.5T is another option.

Mercedes 200/230T - estate - the kart will go inside.
Is that an E Class? Are you sure a Kart will go in? they are nearly 4 feet wide!http://www2.mercedes-benz.co.uk/content/unitedking...
The impreza wagon was a really good car - and there are lots of flavours of it available.
Mine was a MY98 WRX (import) allegedly more power than a UK car - debatable from behind the steering wheel. Not a huge load area though, they have an odd shaped rear aperture as there is a cut out around the real lights reducing loading width - so definitely not cavernous swallowing capability.
Did thousands of miles in mine and never missed a beat right up until the engine blew itself apart on the French Autoroute on the way down to Le Mans 2000. But that wasn't the cars fault as it got filled up with non synthetic oil during the service.
I really enjoyed the car - drove v well and if you can pick up a non tatty looking, non molested example then it is worth considering. Be careful about the servicing - they need to be done right otherwise the engines are very prone to failure.
Cheers
