Ok folkies.
On a restricted license, but with an unrestricted bike.
9 points in, I can't get any more. Can't face restricting her as i've only just sorted the power and am loving it too much
I'm gonna do my DAS (even though i've only got 7 months to run before my restriction is up), but don't want to throw money at it.
Can you do a test on a CBR600F?
I think that by putting the choke on, you can raise the idle enough to do a u-turn without using the throttle (because its on full lock cant use it)
When do the new test rules come in?

New rules are end of the summer this year, if I recall correctly. Sept?
I'd advise using a training school bike, to be honest, and getting a couple of days in on it, for a couple of reasons.
1) If they do check, and discover an unrestricted bike, you'll be a long way over the 9 points.
2) Playing the Grey Man never ever hurts with the DSA, and they'll see school CB500s day in day out.
3) Means a couple of days ironing out those little habits you've picked up since your original test, and getting the Passing The Exam head back on, which is never going to hurt, plus you get to ride the probable route a few times, which always helps.
Does this mean you've had the F4 out on a restricted licence?

I'm not going to lecture you on effectively riding on the road with no licence like the illegals do - but I am intrigued by your statement. When do the new test rules come in?
What do you mean? I can do a full lock turn on my gixxer using the throttle. What's the problem?
Will probably be cheaper to restrict the 600F and wait 7 months than any other option

Personally I feel that the 22.5k miles i've covered in the last 12 months, with the 1st 15 on a restricted VFR400, more than enough experience, over 2 years 3000 mile-a-year summer rider on restricted cb500.
I've long ago learned the responsibility that comes with 100bhp, and I wanted to take a test to formalise what i already know, to keep the government happy. Bearing in mind I passed my test 1st time with 3 minors, did bikesafe 3 months later, and am constantly reading about potential ways to improve my riding. i dont think a by-the-numbers DSA approach is going to make me more responsible, TBH.
edit: sorry for that little rant...

It says on the direct gov website
If you are aged 21 or over you can take the test on a motorcycle with a power output of at least 35 kW (46.6 bhp). If successful you can then ride any motorcycle
So the bike you take the test on has to be more powerful than you are currently allowed on your licence, so while it's perfectly OK for you to take the test on your bike, they may want to know how you rode it there without being in radio contact with, and supervised by, a DAS instructor. If you rode it there legally, then you can't take the test on it.
As you say, it's possibly not the best bike to be doing u-turns on anyway. Would a lesson or two with a local riding school, just to show that you're not going to chuck their bike up the road, and then hiring their bike for the test really break the bank?

Also 7 months isn't that long to wait anyhow.
