Retrofitting new style rear interior panel to older T350

Has anyone had any experience with retrofitting the new style rear interior panel (the interior panel at the rear of the car with the speakers in) to an early T350 with the old style rear panel (with no clips for the luggage cover which was a later addition to the T350)?

I'm trying to tidy up parts of my car at the moment while I'm having some bodywork done. The rear panel on newer cars looks nicer than the old style panel so I thought it a good idea to get one trimmed in the same colour material as my interior and fit it (well the bodyshop had the idea and it sounded good to me!). I also have the problem of the previous owner having a can of tyre foam explode in the small compartment in the rear which has stained the fabric a little so a replacement would be ideal.

I've had a call from the bodyshop and apparently the fitment doesn't appear to be as easy as expected. The framework the rear panel attaches to looks to be different on my early T350 and the panel doesn't look like it will easily fit.

Has anyone done this before? Have you succeeded in the retrofit?
