Focus Auto box

My wife is looking at buying an 06 plate Focus 1.6 LX Auto. Someone told her the tiptronic style gearbox is unreliable. The car she's after has a gear lever with the usual P-R-N-D but also a + - to the right hand side. I'm assuming this is the tiptronic bit.
So 2 questions (a) Is there more than one type of auto box on the 06 Focus and (b) if so is one better than the other?

no they are all jatco type and they are fitted in every thing now it seems.
v.w, audi,renault,ford amongst others.
and yes they are quite poor.
