Child car seats - advice required
Discussion
Is that the "young sport" seat grey suede with an inner for younger children that you remove later? if so 'frauds wouldn't sell me one as they reckoned there was too much movement between the 2 seats ie thrown forward on inpact causing whiplash.
I really need a seat but don't want to compomise safety.
Just noticed there is a young expert seat aswell. may give that a try at the weekend.
Any other advice please?

I've had my one year old niece in mine. I'll get the seat details off my sis in law, fitted perfectly, although I put a towel down to not mark the leather. Apparently you can buy rubber sheets to protect the seats from getting marked.
Why would it be illegal? ... the car has rear seatbelts?!?

not "illegal" as such but frowned upon as they do a "tug test" to demonstrate what the seat woiuld do in a head on collision. it was quite alarming to see the distance the seat trasvelled forward - even though secured by the belt. it's meant to reduce whiplash type injuries by having a baby seat that is stuck rigidly to the car seat....apparently
Don't know about the Monaro but the VXR8 rear seat belts are very very short.
Most of the baby seats simply wouldn't fit and no ISOFIX in the car.
The Maxicosy fits but only when using the non-isofix seat belt base unit. However, once in it does a very good job and fits well.
The only seat I found that fits safely is the Britax First Class Ultra

The best thing about this seat is that the belt length required to fit it in with no isofix/base is short enough for the VXR8 and it is safe to use from birth to 4 years old. Once you child is 9kg+ you can turn the seat around to be forward facing and the belts feed through the back. I found it a good and secure/safe seat and can recommend it. It's not small though so with no rear doors it might be a bit of a squeeze.

Can't put a car seat in the front of the VXR8 - can't disable the passenger airbig.
This only applies for rear facing seats. Front facing you just have to put the seat all the way back.Have to say the manual is pretty ambiguous. Firstly it say under no circumstances any child restraint system, then not a rear facing one then it's back onto none at all.
My personal view is that statistics show the rear seat is by far the safest place with or without airbag and with the vxr8 the rear doors make that really easy so it's not a big problem at all.

Checked the label. It's actually the Young Sport. I did the tug test (no jokes please) and it barely moved. I'd say the very top of the seat moved less than 1cm from the headrest.I really need a seat but don't want to compomise safety.

Either something's changed about the child seat or Monaro seats or your friendly local H'fraud supplier was perhaps not too skilled in their fitting technique??

Thanks Doleboy, I will be popping in to another branch of 'Frauds then to have a second fitting. Really wanted the "young sport" seat as I think it matches the car well, so will see and post what the second "trained fitter" says.
Thanks for the input guys.
Well, went to 2nd halfords and they laughed when i asked if the recaro would fit safely.....
Apparently because of the side lumbar supports (bucket seat) there are only 2 seats thin enough to sit squarely on the base - the maxi cosy and a mama's and papa's seat. they sit high up and the belt goes round the front rather than throught the chair. HOWEVER the belt in the Ro is only just long enough, but once in it is SOLID, - 10 times better fit than the Britax we had tried before.
and to be fair, not a bad looking seat with some clever touches aswell. Only problem is now the Britax we were using in the zafira suffers from "buckle crunch" - when the seat belt buckle touches the hard plastic bit of the base of the seat - apparently in a crash it can make the buck explode and fail............ scary eh? seat number 2 about to be bought!

Wolfracer,
Any chance you can remember to models of the Maxi Cosi and the Mamas and Papas seats? I am in a LS1 VXR without isofix, and neither of the 2 seats we currently have that great, nor are either easy to get in the back seats with the short movement of the front electric seats.
One more thing, I need to get a seat that fits from 9 months with the baby harnesses in it, so I am hoping this is what you were testing in your car??

Twas the maxicosi tobi i ended up getting - didn't see the M&P in the end. Fits absolutely brilliantly in CV8 (same seats as yours KF,) however the rear seat belt is only just long enough and i do mean only just. It took 2 of us to fit it, one being the guy from halfrauds, but now its in its not going anywhere and so much easier to use than the britax in the Zaf. Wouldn'y reccomend it though if you need to keep taking it out as it only just fits through the gap and does use ALL the seatbelt strap.
getting junior in and out is easy though as the tobi sits a little higher than other seats so does save your back a little.
hope this helps PM me if you need any other info.
