BMW M3 engine SCAM

on behalf of a colleagues son, and partially as its horrible reading from a genuine petrol head. More a warning for anyone else who stumbles across this apparent bargain or anyone else who has been stung.

He tried a bid for an engine and lost it. Then contacted the seller direct and got a deal for £900. Bought the engine from ebay from a seller allegedly based in Shetland. for an M3 engine, Gearbox the whole shooting match. I am sure we all know the horror stories of folk being scammed on ebay and other sources. Wish to use this as a warning for others.

Unsure on forum rules on these matters, but as it is a scam and the police have been informed i want to make everyone else aware.

Sellers name was down as
R0bert Pu11en, 19 c0mm3rc1al street, L3rw1ck, Shet1and 1sles.
Altered letters in case said scammer finds this by a name search.

The story, he bought the engine directly from an ebay seller. Rather than using ebay. Seller insisted on using moneygram. Lad pays £900 for engine (which i agree is suspiciously cheap) and never see's engine, and the person he paid doesn't exist at said address nor is contactable after 2 months. Moneygram has no recourse after the transaction.

So just a warning/ look out for anyone selling daft cheap M3 engines. Posted so A no one else gets stung or B any one had the same experiences/ useful advice.

NEVER EVER EVER PAY FOR ANYTHING BY THAT TYPE OF MONEY TRANSFER. 99.9% of the time its an untraceable scam.
I'm afraid you will never see that money again.
It's designed to send money to friends and family as all you need to do to collect the CASH is provide a name ID.
Surely you were suspicious when seller insisted on that method of payment?

It wasnt me, it was the son of a work colleague, a 21 year old lad with an E36. He is honest and a geniune car nut. As above don't like seeing people stung but by the sounds of it it is quite likely to be totally untraceable.

Personally i am suspicious of most things on ebay, its not the bargain find place it used to be. Thanks for the replies...

Really sorry to hear that. He has probably worked hard for that money too! Now some work shy tosser will piss it all down the pub in a weekend.
If the lad carries on working hard he will get his engine but the tosser will still be a tosser.
Experience does not come cheap.
