Jane's Addiction
Discussion
Just downloaded 'Strays' from iTunes after having the theme music from Entourage go round in my head for weeks.
What a brilliant album! I saw Jane's Addiction live a few years ago without having heard their music and was really impressed so not sure why it's taken me this long to actually get hold of one of their records. Anyone else a fan?

They are great
I have no idea how they sound over a wide range of material but there is a certain Armenian chic to the guitarist's goatee which in any other context would be unacceptable yet curiously, here, it delivers the crushing blow to any doubt.
The few songs I have chanced across had me genuinely wishing I weren't too old to rock n roll.

Probably my favourite band. Strays is their weakest album so try some of their earlier stuff, either the Nothings Shocking or Ritual de la Habitual albums. They sound a little dated now but are still some of the most original music to ever be made. Navarro's guitar work is very under-rated IMO.

When JA split up in the early 90's, Perry Farrell (singer) and Stephen Perkins (drummer) left to form Porno for Pyros, while Dave Navarro (guitar) and Eric Avery (bass) formed Deconstruction. Despite a great little album, Deconstruction split soon after and Navarro joined the Chili Peppers while Avery made some songs under the Polar Bear name and then joined Alanis Morisette as a touring musician. Porno for Pyros made two pretty good albums before finishing in the mid-90's and Jane's Addiction reunited for a tour in 1997 with Flea from the Chili Peppers on bass instead of Avery. This only lasted for a year with Navarro and Farrell both going on to make solo albums and Perkins forming a jazz band called Banyan. Farrell also found success in the dance music scene, under the name DJ Peretz. About 5 years ago Navarro, Farrell and Perkins got back together with session bassist Chris Chaney to re-form JA and release the Strays album. They toured the world (and I got to see them in Birmingham!) before Navarro and Farrell remembered they actually hate each other and the band split up for a third time. Navarro, Perkins & Chaney formed The Panic Channel with a singer named Steve Isaacs and released an ok album. Farrell formed Satellite Party with his wife, Nuno Bettencourt and others and released one of my favourite albums of 2007, Ultra Payloaded.
See, I wasn't lying when I said I was a huge fan!
