Damn potholes - Buckled Wheel

Hi all

Looks like I have buckled my front drivers side Spider alloy on a huge pothole on a newly re-surfaced road in Leeds. It looks a real mess + now got the car booked in for a full check-over.

Where can I get replacement spiders from? any ideas?

Get a photo of the road where the damage occurred asap and you may be able to pursue a claim off the highway authority for the costs incurred - must be worth a try

These cast wheels are really soft unfortunately, often have bent rims that go unnoticed - mine had an inner rim buckled & can't imagine from what.

Worth considering much tougher forged SP12's?

or, I went for the lower cost SP12-style ones from Team Dynamics as used by racing TVR's (but aren't forged lightweights like SP12's)

I have already got my claim form prepped from them and will be submitting a claim as the roads in Leeds are absolutely terrible currently. I will hit them where it hurts as the wheel looks quite bad and I am sure it has knocked out the geometry as well.

I also really like the spider alloys and I do appreciate that they are soft, but unless they spend more of my council tax on the roads then they can keep replacing my wheels and suspension at their cost.

I Hit a pot hole in the subaru few years back.
2 buckled wheels.
2 ruined tyres and front and rear suspension
£2000 claim and got all of it back.

Good to hear they can be made to pay up

Disgraceful how little of our huge car and fuel taxes are spent on road maintenance of any quality.

Hi Paul, I think the SP12s are heat treated cast alloy wheels which makes them stronger than the spiders. Forged wheels are lighter still but cost serious money. The SP wheels are brilliant on the T350 racer and will get some for the cerb now I to have a pair of buckled front spiders.

Hi CJ,

Ah...thought SP said they were forged when I spoke to them but I must have mis-remembered. They were very helpful with various sizes/offsets suggested to accommodate my odd choice of track tyre sizes and tight wheelarch clearance, but budget was too tight at time.

Will probably get a set of SP's for road use. When I finally get car back ....

Can someone post a pot-hole damage claim letter they have used which has paid out.

We should all claim to recover cost of damage.

Cost me two wheels three tyres, one coil spring and an anti-roll bar! in last couple years
