fogged up clocks

Inadvertantely stumbled upon a method of curing fogged/misted up clocks. My tacho stopped functioning a while ago, so I took it apart and gave the mechanicals a squirt of WD40. The tacho sprung to life also I noticed, bingo, no more misting up!! my clocks now have a small hole drilled in the casing to accept the little straw on the WD40 can, result. Any thoughts?
