has any one fitted carpets and renewed the vinyl on the transmission tunnel in their s themselves.
any advise appreciated.

Looking to replace my carpets shortly, Coverdale do a kit for all the carpets apart from the bits which are glued down the sills.I think the kit was about £250.00, Has anybody fit theis carpet kit and if so what was the fit like.

I replaced the carpets in mine last year. I used 2 sheets of lightweight carpet picked up from Stoneleigh kit car show. I'd advise anyone else to pick up 3 sheets but at £9 a sheet that isn't too bad. The contact adhesive works out quite expensive so hunt around. I used between 3 and 4 L of the stuff out of the 5L tin I picked up cheap on ebay.

I wanted to use the existing carpets as templates to they were removed using a pallet knife and a fish slice.

The replacement carpet was allegedly for Volvos and was rot proof (a bonus in the S) and much lighter than the original Wilton. It is also more flexible so covering the rear wheel arch is much easier and just needed one triangular gusset stuck in.

To finish the edges on some of the carpet I used vinyl which was sewn in place using an old Singer sewing machine.
Total cost was just under £40 for the lot.

Have bought the carpet to do mine a roll 4mx2m cost £50 (ebay) and will more than do the job. Project delayed at moment until the body is back on chassis as chassis work came first. But carpet is very flexible and removal of old stuff easy (came out while removing body). So don't expect the job to be too bad, just fiddly. As I do the job the pics will go on my website so if you want to wait I'll give you a rundown. The carpet is also nylon based and hence won't rot. Also as Jed-S says it is far lighter than the original stuff. Once carpet done centre console will be my next task (expect that to be a bit more tricky-cos of the stitching - SWMBO will win that one!!!!!).
