ultima gtr or can - am?
Discussion
Looking at your other post your only choice is the GTR as the CanAm will not have enough space for the size of blower you will need.
The only records you could need 1000hp for will be top speed straight line which is why Geoff built his to run the Silverlake Classic.
In terms of noise they are both going to be loud and the difference will only be slight.

Leo, you can pick up a used Ultima for that, then save up and modify it to increase power. I'm not sure what your plans are or what you want to use it for but I would say that I have been lucky enough to go for a ride in a certain very well presented 425+bhp Ultima CanAm and it's breathtakingly quick, I'd be happy with that much power. Admittedly he wants a bit more than your budget for his car but there are other Ultimas out there for C£30k that will be as quick if not quite as new or well finished.
You should be able to find one for about £25k and with a bit of careful buying you'll be able to tidy it and perhaps make it go a bit quicker with the other £5k, I'd convert it to fuel injection for a start, maybe add a blower for quick cheapish gains. I'm not sure you'll get a CanAm for that as they're fairly new but you should be able to find a Sport or an older GTR.

From your list above I'd say your original estimate of £16k for the car without engine is too low, even £20k.... I'm sure some of the guys have more experience of this than I do but there's a list somewhere of the real cost of building an Ultima.... all the parts in the catalogue don't make up all the parts and the services that you will need to construct it ;-)
The LS engine is a good choice though as it's all alloy (light), modern, fuel injected, plentiful and powerful. Also, you can pick an LS1 crate engine with that 450bhp spec up from the states or Australia for about £4k including taxes and shipping. Add your engine management, exhausts etc. and you've spent about £7k. Add a blower, inlet etc...

Hi, I'm not talking brand new for that sort of money but good used. They appear on Ebay fairly regularly. I brought one in last year for another project from a good dismantlers for £3,300 including taxes. It came with a whole drive train for a holden GTS which I sold and the auto gearbox it was originally on the car with. I broke it and sold it for a profit.
Here's a very out of date price list for you to play around with.
