I know just how much you guys hate it. Heres a newb, doesnt have the courtesy to say Hello, and yet he wants to know how to open the boot once the solenoid has been removed.

Well Hi Im Dom.

This is my Charity Website.

This is how I raise money for Charity.

This is how gorgeous I am sober

and Im even better looking after a few cold ones.

Im 47, love cars, have a current S Type Jaguar, A 1976 XJS with an Aussie V8 and auto, and a TVR Chimaera for the English Trio.

My Yank 3 are a 67 Mustang, a 70 Mustang Convertible and a 71 429 Mustang Super Cobrajet.

I do the Variety Bash, which is more fun than having sex with Elle Macpherson and own a 1967 Ford Fairlane and a stretched EH Holden bash cars and my third Dirt rally car is a 1978 Holden VB Commodore V8.

I also have four race cars being a Mitsubishi EVO 9 Clubspec, a 1989 Skyline GTR, a 1977 Carrera 3.0 and a 1971 Holden Torana GTR-XU1.

I also own a few other things, being a 1980 RX-7 Series 2, a Holden Overlander 4WD, (dont worry no one in OZ knows what they are either, only 50 were made) and a V8 ute to tow the race cars.

So now you know more about me than my wife does. (only been married 25 years, so still newly weds)

The problem is that during a recent trip to the spray painters, the guys pulled out my boot solenoid as they said it was not working and stuck a coat hanger to the boot lock so that the boot could be opened from the outside. Unfortunately when I got home the coat hanger had come off leaving me with, the roof panel in the boot and of course no access to fill her up.

Ive spent a month looking up web sites but to no avail so I thought Id try posting my life story here, in the hope someone can email me some instructions on getting the boot (trunk to yanks) open.

By the way DOTARS states there are 17 Road registered TVR Chimaera in Australia (most in WA where the importer set up business and because of the higher proportion of UK Immigrants.

So I have never seen one other than mine.

Cheers and best wishes
Dom

Howdy Dom,
Nice to hear of another Chimaera owner out here in Australia, there are a few of us about.

I'm quite surprised DOTARS only have 17 listed, i know of about 6-7 Chims in Melbourne alone and about 5 of those are the Malaysian built cars with the others being personal imports like mine. There are a handfull of Griffs/Cerberas, Tuscans, one T350 and a Sagaris scattered around too.

Feel free to get in touch if you ever need assistance from a fellow aussie based Chim owner.

Cheers

Al

Hi,

Yes DOTARS only has a listing of 17 imported, they do not include the private imports.

There was actually over 30 imported but surprisingly 1/2 (like mine) were never registered, despite being a 99 model with 16,000k.

I have never seen one in Sydney.

What do ou use yours for.

The braking is not good enough for me to race it. I have a spare set of EVO/Brembo calipers, so maybe one day.

Mine's used as a general weekend toy, great fun around Melbourne and draws a lot of comments as very few people know what it is.

Doesn't surprise me that there are such irregularities in import/registration numbers, there seem to have been a few dramas surrounding the officially imported cars. There was also a recall/removal of compliance on them that I think has caused some people fun at registration time due to non compliance with frontal impact requirements.

They seem to be a very strange blend of parts, even the 1999 build Malaysian cars see to be pre-facelift rear with post facelift front and with the old interior and door opener buttons.

There are usually a few for sale at any given time on www.carsales.com.au and www.drive.com.au though and there is a TVR register/owners club out here that keeps track of them and organises occasional events.

The brakes are indeed a weak point as standard, they are pretty easily upgraded however although i don't know about parts availability out here as mine were done back in the UK.
