Seems my sports exhausts have now taken a liking to melting the boot carpetrolleyes

What's the best way to stop this? Has anybody used any heat reflector stuff under the car?

This sort of stuff: http://www.heatshieldproducts.com/heat_shield_mat....

Any recommendations?

Shouldn't melt if the car is running properly, suggests that you have a problem with the cats or ecu.

It does. Looks like a few people have the problem.

I was just wondering if anybody has a definitive fix, or is it just a case of creating some heat shielding from matting or ally sheet or something.

I think I may try and dig out some ally sheet and a few bolts/spacers, make some nicely fitting curves and bolt them in place between the pipes and the floor of the boot.

The problem seems to be that the factory heat shield (well, on mine anyway) is aligned for the standard exhaust whereas the sports exhaust takes a different route, and, I guess, runs hotter further back without the big silencer. A friend melted his carpet when he adjusted the rear pipes to sit more tightly into the cutouts below the bumper as they were hanging a bit low in his view. I too adjusted mine for the same reason, but left a bigger gap following his experience. I guess a simple self adhesive heat shield film applied above the exhaust would be a sensible precaution as seting fire to stuff adjacent to the fuel tank is never a wise idea!

Hi - had exactly the same problem on my car. Sports exhaust and decat, nice flames on the overrun, but melted carpet in the boot !

I cured it by fitting some refelective coated heat resitant kevlar mat into the exhaust cut outs - glued on with silicon, you cant see them once fitted.

I also lined the boot under the carpet with the same to be doubly sure. Not had a problem since.

Got it off a rally place on the net, cost about 30 GBP for a couple of sq meters. I can dig the link out if you need it.

Paul.
