I know that TSS/DS2 (fixed site) strips, have been type approved since 9th August 1993 (coming up to 10 years !!).....

www.homeoffice.gov.uk/docs/speed.html

..... but their use over the last 4 to 5 years has died of death, due to Gatsos and Laser guns, HOWEVER they seem to be making a come back, as 2 new sets were install on the A491 near Belbroughton back in April this year.

I know that certain GPS units warn you about TSS/DS2, however recently I came across a pair on the A4074 Dorchester bypass near Oxford, which weren't or my GPS unit, but when I got out and had a quick look the strips looked completely knacked, but the little grey posts looked alright.

Question:

Has any one on this forum been caught by TSS/DS2 strips? and when was it?

Cheers.

Two new sets were installed recently on a road i travel regularly. Nothing special there, except theres already 2 gatsos installed not more than a couple of hundred yards away. They really have lost the plot on this speed kills shite.

Madcop informed us ina thread a while back that the strips are no longer used to catch people speeding ,just to monitor the number of cars speeding before they decide to mount a speeding crackdown (if necessary)by that i mean will enough cash be generated

Seconded... my understanding is that they are for survey use. The keep popping up around our housing estate - I always make a point of driving extra slowly over these traps to try and slew the avergages. They are generaly harbringers of new speed humps and all the associated mess of the roadworks that come with them.

Look out for them next to schools.

Nowadays, even main roads are getting the humped treatment.

Pair of bolt croppers will soon put an end to there monitoring ways Can't monitor things under the river Tyne

I think some people are getting mixed up with the traffic surfey equipment.

I am talking about THREE piezo strips cut into the road and covered with tar. There strips are a PERMANTENT feature, with a small metal post set back from the kerb. (This is where the police car plugs in their camera).

I am not talking about TWO rubber strips nailed to the road connected to a box, usually chained to a lamp post. These are temporary traffic surveying equipment.

Hope this helps.

Surveying the sppeds of the cars before speed cameras in my experience.
All the ones round here have had them put down for a couple of weeks...all the roads with a speed camera on them.
Theyll obviously use the "statistcal facts" gained, to prove that see, speed cameras do slow people....NO THEY DONT!
