guys, really boring topic but i need some help/advice. I'm about to swap into an E92 M3, have 2 deals on the table, both cars are great spec and similar, just under 60k new and have all the right bits for resale, but, I can't decide between the 2 colour options available, i like and have had both variants in different M's over the last few years so can happily live wiht both so have decided to go with whatever will be better for resale and RV after 2 years and 30,000 miles, I need opinions on

Space grey with extended black leather and Aluminium fascias, or
Jerez black with extended red leather and carbon fascias

????

Its a very personal thing, but I have a hatred for Red leather (and tan!!) so it would have to be the Space grey one..

but.. Jerez black is a nicer colour i reckon.

Nice choice to have hehe

I always wanted Silver or Silver Grey with Imola on the last M3 but went for black instead, have Red with Black on the Z4m and it's lovely, compliments each other really well.

Guys, FORGET personal decisions, whatever is best for resale is the one i want, so let's have selections based on this, come monday am the combination that most people will go for is the one i'll have

agreed. But either way I'd budget circa £1k pcm depreciation.

Red Leather is a dangerous option in so much as it definately does make resale trickier, Black leather/Aluminium is going to be far easier. It's down to personal taste, (personally I think Red interior is grim) also I don't really like Black on the E92 - so you know my suggestion. If it was up to me I wouldn't buy the E92-M3 right now? Anyhow why are you thinking you want one Taffy, what were the other options??

Above comment about depreciation is a fair one but then you know that much and so what. I just bought a V10 Touareg and that's going to depreciate like a pig - but I went into it eyes open

the simple truth is that I can't live with the Z4M anymore, it's killing me. After an hour on the motorway my back is in half and i'm fed up of it, love the car to bits, it drives great but the ride and build quality is awful, time for something better. Looked extensively at 997's but for the same money we're talking 2005 and 15,000 miles and I do 15k pa so they're not the right choice, the M3 is expensive but it's all about the deal, the deals are there now and later on i'm not sure the same margins will be there to offer the sort of price that allows me to get full retail for the Z4M in p/ex (4k more than it's worth) and get into an E92 that is 10k under list with only 2,500 miles on it. 1k / month depreciation is pretty much what any 50k car will cost, it's alot but I need something for business, fun and that I can keep for more than 7 months which is what I seem to be keeping my cars for now, so c'est la vie, it's no worse than the Z4M or the E46 M3 i had in reality

I'd take the 997 over the M3.. and thats coming from a pain up M car fan.

Its just too much money for a 3 series in my eyes.

If you're worrying about the residuals, go for the black leather. Space grey looks better than black anyway smile

Well I think I went through a similar thought process not so long ago and made the decision to step out of my CSL so I know where you are coming from albeit my reasons were different. I haven't sold the CSL by the way, just couldn't do it.

I'm pretty bored of driving full on sports cars on the road I think. 90% of the time the traffic is crap and todays cars are so powerful that you really do risk losing your license if you properly push on in something as potent as the CSL (and the engine note screams for your to go faster). My car wasn't setup for track work which did also mean that the ride quality was a little hard at low speed and the camber settings made it demand a little more attention than your average car on the groooved and battered roads of todays Britain. With me spending more and more time at the race track did I need to tool about in something like this in between (YES..I hear some of you shout)? Anyway I coudl go on about my situation but actually I don't think it's necessary.

I ultimately decided on a V10 Touareg for my cicumstances (plus I'm actually keeping the CSL). I wanted something with 4-doors and some luxury for getting about in. I can go skiiing and shooting in this, tow on the occasions I want to and entertain friends/customers when I need to take them out. I looked at things like the E60-M5 and it was tempting but not the right option for me (again primarily as I am keeping the CSL).

Why don't you look at something like the M5 yourself Taffy? It's more comfortable/practical for work and has the benefit of 4-doors? You've got racing for your kicks so why not just have something that bit more comfortable/usweable on the road.

On 911's... since someone mentioned the 997. Personally if you are going to have a 911 you can only ever have a GT3 or an RS variant. I don't get excited about C2's or C4's or Turbos... sorry. I went to look at a GT3RS in December. I was serious about getting one (probably LHD out of personal preference) for about £100k. However it really wasn't much different than the CSL in so much as it's somewhat compromised for road use, begs you to drive it at license losing speeds, requires you to crab it over speed bumps (you know what I mean??) and leaves you uncomfortable about where you park all the time (- will it get vandalised, will it get dented etc etc etc).
I test drove one and it was great but not 3x the car the CSL is despite being three times the money, in fact with the money I've spent on making my CSL the right track weapon I was actually pretty underwhelmed by the GT3RS. Sure it would be awesome on track but then I have access to M3 and 911 race cars if I want that and it's gong to be pretty tame compared to those.

Wrestled with fox red for 2 weeks but just couldn't bring myself to do it. Doesn't look good in pictures (especially when flash is used) and since that's the first thing people see before buying I think it will put some off. It does look better in the flesh though. IMO strong colours are best reserved for convertibles.

To be safe, I went for Jerez black with black leather and alumninium.

I've been driving a 650i and 630i alot this year as well so considered an M6 or M5, great cars and probably a tad big and heavy for me, considered a 4.8 X5 but the only car that I have kept for more than 8 months was the M3, just such a great all rounder. I really liked the 997 and really wanted one but this is my daily driver and i run it privately so my max budget needs to be 50k and you don't get alot of 997 for that sort of money, 3 years old 15,000 miles an in 2 years time with 45,000 on the clock it'll be an old car, BMW are also more open to deals and at the end of the day that's all something like this is about for me, the deal is king, if it was about the drive i'd stick with the Z4m.

Over half the cars available are Black/Red so it seems strange that RV's wil be alot less for this combination, but assuming black/red is harder to sell as opposed to black, anyone hazard a guess at what the difference in 2 years might be? Would prefer black with black or grey wiht black but at the enf of the day it's about the best deal
