928 S4 - good buy?
Discussion
What do you people reckon? I've been toying over a TVR Chimera or a 928 for ages, but sense finally won through and I'm going for the 928. Although I know a fair bit about the first 928 (my dad was one of the first people in the uk (1988) to do a nut and bolt rebuild of one of the first imports - 1978, porsche wouldn't even sell him a manual!)I know next to nothing about the car which I have decided on a 1990 s4 auto.
Do the engines run on Efi, if so what manufacture and spec?
What trim level should I look for?
Do they still vapour lock?
Do indipendent companies supply cheaper parts?
Do the 5.0 litre units get tappet rattle at higher milage - 80,000 miles?
Thanks all!

Alastair,
As has just been said, watch out for the dogs (usually private sales IME) but via the ranks of generally decent indy Porsche specialists (OPCs don't seem to cater these days), you should pick up a gem.
I ran an early S4 for quite a while and rate it very highly indeed.
Look at the price of contemporary GTs from Aston Martin and Ferrari (against which it was pitched contemporarily) and you soon realise why it remains the connoisuers' bargain.
The woofle of the 5.0 is actually nicer than the slightly harder edged 5.4 of the later GTS and basically it's one of those cars which I'm sure Nick Mason has got tucked up somewhere in a corner of one of his barns!
(The GT? Well if you can find one of those...
)
Just do it!
