335d oil change?

Have a 335d coupe with just over 11k miles on - service indicator says service due in 7k. Am used to oil change every 6k with my 993 - what are peoples thoughts - is it worth getting the oil change done in between services or not?

Depends really on how long you intend to keep it,if more than 3 yrs then yes i would change it every 12k miles and every 1 year regardless of milage.

Off topic slightly but how the engine is warmed up and cooled is the key to the longevity of this type of engine.

I found the 20k first service a bit freakish too, so changed at 10k. Probably a waste of £100, but made me feel better!

Thanks guys - was thinking along the same lines - despite long life oil etc think that its worth the extra dough.

at the risk of going more off-topic, what are people's thoughts on how long to warm up the 335d?

Mine has no temperature gauge (unless it is hidden in the idrive?)?

BMW say that after 6 (ish) miles the new M5 is fully warmed up. I Would say about 10 and Im happy to push on.
I prefer to slowly raised the during gearchanges, 4k a few times, then 5k for a few more. Once the oil is about 75-80C then i am confident the engine/gearbox oil is hot enough.
My M5 has a hidden menu (pressing the 'check control' for about 5 seconds) and within it you can have a digital readout of coolant and oil temps amongst other things.
Your 335 might have something similar. Instructions wont be in the manual.

Yes, I would recommend an oil change with filter every 10k miles or annually. You can then use a normal, fully synthetic diesel motor oil, none of this overpriced "Long Life" oil, and have cleaner oil for the same price.
The Long Life oil is not better, it justs lasts longer so why use it if you are going to change it regularly?
Long service intervals are designed to attract company and lease buyers to purchase new cars, the main buyers for new cars. Wear and tear on cars out of warranty and 3+ years old just brings the cars back into the dealer for more revenue so is seen as good.
