Hi all, i have a few questions ref the dax cobra if anyone could help please, i have been looking at the ones built by DB and they look great, i live in north yorkshire and was wondering if there are any reliable and quality garages that service this type of vehicle?, also are children(8 yrs)able to travel safely with the use of the harneses?, and the last one at the moment is what are they like on fuel(not thrashing it all the time), i have been looking at a few speed 6 TVR`s but the engie issue creeps into my subconcious every now and again.
Many thanks in advance.

Hi Paul.Many thanks in advance.
DB here! ;o)
For servicing these cars are pretty straight forward. I would avoid the Fast fit type places and find an older established place, preferably somewhere that services classis cars.
The harnesses will be fine, just make sure they fit the youngster nice and snug without cutting into the sides of their head or neck (You can get pads for this).
I have customers who have had over 25 to the gallon on steady runs out......drive like a loon though and you will be looking at 6 mpg!!!
One thing over the Speed 6 is the lack of depreciation the Cobras have compared to production cars, They are also easier and much cheaper to fix if it does go wrong.
Good luck.

Hi Dave, thanks for the info, the dax`s do seem to command a good price, there are a few good classic car garages round here and one bloke who is a wizard on the old TR3 engines i`ve also seen him work on some of the private le-mans type GT cars but getting hold of him is a nightmare!. My son is going daft looking at the cobra pictures, more enthusiastic than when we were looking at the TVR tuscans. The ease of repair and expense of the repairs are what i guessed in comparison to the TVR, i am pleasantly suprised by the fuel consumption also, it`s just good to hear views of some people in the know
.
Thanks again, Pablo.
.Thanks again, Pablo.

That was me
I had just under 26MPG out of a 6.3L Chevvy on the run home on a 200mile journey. Now that I'm used to the car I'm getting much less than that and at the last count I'm getting on average 13.18MPG. Having said that I do like the sound of the loud pedal...Hi Pablo, I sold my TVR Chimaera after five fun filled years,to achieve my long held dream of a Cobra, DB built my car, NOTHING compares to one of these, massive performance/road presence, no irritating electical gremlins, naturally aspirated V-8 designed just after the planet cooled, fuel consumption..? This is PISTONHEADS, not Green Party site..!
Go and see what Dave's about,or try and have a ride in one; I promise you'll not be disappointed!

I have the same trouble with these icons,I'll take a computer course sometime.. right, an honest answer, these motors will drink if you go ballistic, but as they produce massive torque from idle upwards ( the 393 ci Ford in mine makes 460 ft/lbs according to the man who built it) you can float along on a whiff of throttle most of the time, in top gear if you so wish, unlike so many supercars where you have to keep the revs up.
Apparently if you open the taps fully its like a second engine effect from the large secondary barrels on the carb; not brave enough to have tried this yet..

I have just sold my tvr cerbera after four year, it was a wonderful car extremely fast and also extremely thirsty when used hard but very good when cruising within the 100 mph speed limit.
The service bills and self inflicted modification costs were pretty big, the rule of thumb being to allow £3k a year to run.
I am now in the process of building a gardner douglas cobra with 383 hauser motor and expect less depreciation and lower costs to run but can imagine the fuel pedal could take a pounding.

Pablo, like the TVRs you have no traction control, so yep it is a matter of treating the loud pedal with respect even in the dry, like any car familiarity can breed contempt, but I'm always mindful of the lack of weight over the back wheels, and.. all that power, readily available in any gear once the clutch is home, with the side exhausts everyone hears you coming down the road too, so you can easily make a hellova scene if you drive extravagently in busy traffic; which I don't, most people seem to like these cars, and let you out of t-junctions etc, in the wet take it gently, and look forward to summer..
It's defo the best fun car yet as far as I'm concerned.
