Hi guys, I'm looking for a new car just now, land cruisers and patrols fit the bill nicely but there's a definate hankering to get back into a disco.

I'm only really familiar with ES and GS spec cars, but the XS I've found looks pretty decent.
Anyone give me an idea what sort of spec they are and where they stand in the range with ES and GS etc? I thought they were below a GS but the one I've found seems as good as a GS.

Worth bothering with or should I stick to looking for an ES' ?

It's a disco II btw (circa 2000 with the earlier spec headlights)

Cheers

I had an 02 reg, pre facelift car, the main XS spec items were Part leather seats, active roll suspension, powerfold mirrors.

I think the main extra parts on the ES are full leather seats, heated front screen and CD changer.

I always think of the XS as the "sporty" one. It slots in between the GS and the ES in terms of trim. iirc the seats aren't electric like on an ES.

I'd forgot about the seats, also the ES has a compass in the rear view mirror (which is possibly auto-dimming).

sounds good, cheers for the advice guys.

I've had a disco before, and I'll be honest and say I quite fancy another, unfortunately it won't be a V8 this time but I suppose I can learn to love the TD5 provided it doesn't go wrong...

The one I've found seems really nice, any thoughts?

it's a hell of a long way from me, which is all that's stopping me snapping it up really provided it's in good nick. I'll be honest though and say I'm not sure if a patrol or land cruiser amazon will be more what I'm after, the disco just seems to have something about it that I love in general over the rest of the 4x4's I'm interested in, I just know it won't last as long before it goes wrong hehe

Cheers for the help guys, sounds like the XS trim is nice, can anyone tell me, is it half leather half suede/alcantara (looks like it in the ad) or is it velour centres?

Also, anyone know a decent Disco II buyers guide? Mine was a Disco I (98) so I'm not really upto speed on the SII's. smile

Cheers again for the help guys, very much appreciated.

also, am I wrong to expect it to break sooner or later?

I've had one before, and considering it's milage it gave me very little trouble really, and my folks have had a series II before, which the only thing it had go wrong was a wheel sensor, but reading reviews like honest john, which?, whatcar and so on doesn't inspire confidence.

I guess if it's been looked after and has had all the neccessary recalls done (of which there seems to be shed loads!) it shouldn't be too bad? or am I kidding myself?

not that I'm indecisive or anything, but a patrol is really appealing on reliability alone, the disco just seems to have bags more class about it, and having done a couple of desert drives and rallies in one, I've grown very fond of them.

Seat centres are Alcantara.

The problems I had with mine were build issues, so the dealer should have eventually sorted them.
