silverstone spectating

just been on the silverstone site for british gp tickets but as ive never been to this circuit was wondering where the best viewing area was,its a choice between luffield a and b or woodcote a and b at the moment but would appreciate some advice thanks :CONFUSED:

for the actual race, I would suggest Club. You can see all the way to Stowe, and up to the Abbey chicane. You may be able to see more track in other places, but for racing opertunities/metre of track I think Club takes it.

Make an effort to catch the Becketts/Maggots Chapel sequence, it's great to see them flying through there.

Do all your walking Friday/Saturday and be sure to get there early on race day.

I was recomended to sit at Becketts corner, its a corner that can be taken at close to flat out speeds. I've booked tickets there but i will be walking around the circuit on the friday practise session to see if any other of the corner/ pit straight would be better next time around. Also i would recommend you to get your tickets off of the silverstone website, the delivery is £10 cheaper.

It would be good if the stand was anywhere near the track(unless you blag your way to the inside of the circuit), also not sure if there is a decent screen there nowadays, but then again Kangaroo handhelds are very good.

Thats one of the reasons i'm going to have a walk around, i haven't been before so i'll have a look at other spots while i'm there. Initially i was going for the pit straights but becketts is meant to be one of the best corners at of all the circuits. Next year it might be a trip to Barcelona.

Becketts - great if you want to see the cars whizz by at high speed...but that's about all!

Club - excellent indeed for the longest view you'll get of the cars - depends how high up, but you can potentially see the cars from the exit of Maggots through to Abbey...perhaps even Bridge.


One of those stands at Luffield gives a pretty good view of the approach to Bridge, but only if you sit high enough up.

BUT for the atmosphere that is a big part of F1 at Silverstone, I think you'd enjoy being at Woodcote.

Becketts tends to be line astern as it's such a challenging set of corners and therefore there's little overtaking there. You will see cars out of shape and someone may drop it, but probably not in the race. I'm talking F1 here of course, for the support anything goes, as per the GP2 race in Sunday morning in 2006.

I would definitely recommend standing on the exit of maggots / entry to becketts at some point during the weekend. The spectator banking is close to the track and as they pile into Becketts it's one of those rare places where you get a real sense of the speed.

Agree that Club would give you a good long view from Vale through to Abbey, and it's one of the weirdest things, because of the delay in the sound reaching you, the cars sound like they are still accelerating even as you can see them turn into Abbey!

Looking at beckets from the exit of chapel gives you a good view of how well F1 cars change direction though. I used to go there a few years back, but got fed up with having to stand up the whole race to see over the deck chair and freezer box brigade. If only they had a decent stand near the track at chapel.
