Just had a buddie on the phone asking about my little projects and he also mentioned his projects.

He has a 6 litre RV8 engine sleeved down to 5.6 litre that is normally aspirated running loads of NO2 .. laugh .. pumping out 800bhp (with NO2) !

That should move quite quickly..

Anyone else know of any other seriously powerful TVR's or RV8 powered cars ?

Steve Green's Mk1 Cortina - RV8, 366ci (6 litre) Video

Tim Garlick's Mk3 Cortina - RV8, 368ci, over 1000bhp on the bottles. I think this engine is on record as the most powerful RV8. Tim has since moved on to small block Chevy power.

Wildcats! Well, based on Wildcats. Both are pretty much bespoke motors.

Steve's motor runs all 8 cylinders into a single pipe - yep, sounds awesome! evil

Wouldn't be surprised if Rev's pal has picked up Tim's old motor? Can't be many 368ci Rovers on laughing gas kicking around?

Wildcat still get the old RV8 racing block cast .. I seem to remember it was 4 bolts holding down each cylinder instead of the unusual 3 .. or 2 as most of us prefer..

It also has a bigger bore.. looks exactly the same apart from that.

They say the block was used in the MGF record breaking car at Bonnieville salt flats.

Iirc the wildcat block can be cast to accomodate 100mm bores which means chevrolet pistons etc can be used. The blocks have better oiling and I think will accept 6 bolt head fixing ala buick.

I think Revs mate is Perry Antioniou (spelling), i remember something about him picking it up off Tim. That should make his little MK1 Escort fly along...here is Perrys site: www.n2oxide.com

ICE know how to build a good motor!

As for Steves car it is Wildcat block and heads with Hilborn fuel injection running on Methanol. Steve managed to break the 7's at the end of the year with a tiny dose of gas in it. Look out for it this year!

As for a real Rover V8 lump, Steve ran 8.33 @ 170 with a 4.6 Rover lump...you do the math on HP...

EDIT **

I see your from my neck of the woods Phil, i have seen your Blue TVR about.

Good to see some MK Drag Racing fans on here...

Very impressive but why spend a fortune caning the nuts off a small engine when you can just buy a bigger one and get the same results without blowing up after 10 miles? What am I missing here?

How long have you got?

The point/challenge of motorsport may have entirely passed you by.

Drag racing is an extreme form of motorsport with statistics off the scale of other forms of the sport - and, yes, the trade-off at the ragged edge is short component life. DTM, F1, Nextel Cup push other extremes, appropriate to the regulations and duration of the contests. Their components may be 'lifed' for longer than quarter milers, but only for as long as they need to be.

Could be a class just for rovers? Or, use of the bottle is a cheap way to big power so long as you get it right. That said a wildcat costs a lot more then a chevy so I'd say there are some class rules in play.

When you say Wildcat are you reffering to this insane creation:

^^Ian Richardson has his own patterns to cast a custom rover block to better specifications but at a price.

Oh. When someone mentions Wildcat I get all excited and think of a hoofing great V8 powered beast. A propper 4x4. A real man's car. Infact, I don't think you could get a more manly machine. Terminator would drive a Bowler Wildcat.

That may be so, but I reckon Chuck Norris would drive Steve Green's Cortina and nuke the Terminator's Landie.

Yep - around 3 grand .. compared with around 750~1000 for a 4.6 block.
