I'm spreading the work on as many sites as possible. Looking for a solid RHD 911 SC, my budget is between 6-7k.

Your budget is woefully short to get hold of a good car. Restoration project maybe, but otherwise you need about £12K for a nice example.

They do crop up, not exactly shining examples but usable all the same. Just missed out on one, 82 coupe - FSH - 150,000 miles - last owner 4 years - 6k.

I'm in no rush to buy so I've got time find one at the right money, wish me luck.

Reading the other 911 SC thread is a little depressing. Its very doom and gloom but I say what the hell, take the risk. If the bills stack up then pass it on but if you can run a car for a couple of years without to many problems then you're on to a winner.

Life's to short! I'll keep you posted on how I get on.

People selling their 911s for £6K are doing so for a very good reason. Good ones are worth considerably more, so bear that in mind. Basically ask yourself why the seller is trying to "pass it on" as you say. In my experience, buying a good one is the key to low running costs. Buying a munter at rock bottom price is the expensive way to go about it, unless you're just happy to have it sitting in the garage as an ornament. But best of luck anyway!

I don't think anyone has mentioned this yest, but it's certainly worth considering a Targa on a low budget. They're normally a few grand cheaper than equivalent Coupes. But only consider a Targa for summer use. They're prone to leaking and associated rotting. Even more careful inspection is required before buying.

There's a relatively dated show on buying a 6K Targa available on the motorworld.net torrent site. Yes, you have to tolerate Mike Brewer being a c0ck, but it's a reasonably sobering tale. Worth a watch, IMO
